As stated in the op, the link to the bill had a warning, so I didn't click on it. I went on what he stated.

My mistake. I was looking for HB 1250, and it's SB1250. It proposes VIRGINIA criminal history check to rent a firearm, but not a NICS check.

My club has a capped membership , a set of by-laws , and a long waiting list to join. It can take years. Being recommended by 1 or more members in good standing can still help a prospective member bump the line.
An interview by the board of directors is also standard. Some applicants refused to submit to a background check , and were refused further consideration.

Background checks also make sense at rental ranges. Can't rent a firearm to a prohibited person now.
I'd rather not shred the Constitution for the majority of gun owners to crack down on the tiny majority of people who are criminals. It's that liberal mantra of "if we could just save child, it's worth it".

Laws are already in place to punish those specific crimes. Law-abiding gun owners' rights should not be diminished by the deeds of criminals.

I would think any range that rents guns would have to do this. Not sure why they would do it to people that aren't renting.

The constitution was established to protect us from overbearing government. When we do it to ourselves, as we definitely are of late, we have only ourselves to blame.

Many or most based on you belonging to one gun club? Where do you come to this conclusion?

I am a member of five gun clubs and have shot in matches at many others. None of these clubs did background checks.

How are these background checks conducted by gun clubs? Using what sources? My club does not require that a background check be conducted if I bring a guest shooter. It holds me responsible for my judgment and for his/her conduct. And mine. I cannot shoot while the guest is shooting. I am required to arms-length monitor for range safety. Who would I contact to acquire background info as I fill in the guest shooter registry...the local gendarmes? PICS? NICS? Their high school permanent record?

    $10 guest fee, $22 EPATCH fee...not bad, I guess.

Interesting. We used to help apartment managers and local employers with arrest info until we were told we were breaking the law (1970s-80s) and told to stop. Now the state has found a revenue source. Figures.

I think it's just terrific for free people to be randomly stopped and have their papers verified.
