Guard what is left of your hearing jealously.

When its gone, it is gone. Forever.

I cannot understand the words of my 3 year-old granddaughter and it is an immeasurable sadness to me

Thanks for all of the wisdom. I’m going in the morning for my 2 week follow up audiogram / doc visit. The ringing has gotten a little softer in the last 24 hours, so I hope it continues to die down.

    I’ll post update this weekend.

    Thanks!

This isn't going to help but that's why I tell people to reconsider using a shotgun for indoor home defense. I also don't recommend pistol magnum calibers for carry. There are just too loud for unprotected ears, especially the short barrelled revolvers.

The ringing becomes greater and lesser. It is caused by the brain itself not the ear. Your ear damage is permanent by now. The hairs of the cochlea don*t recover. Some people don*t get the ringing but most do. Just how the brain interprets the signal and turns it into what we know as hearing sound. When it*s quiet you will notice it worse once you pay attention to it. Mine is kicked up real good as I type this in silence. I hope you can still do your work. Promote the 10 safety rules with a vengeance and save others from this and worse. Familiarity breeds contempt and people get lazy.

This is why electronic ears are hanging on my rifle bag next to my bed and will be getting suppressors as soon as I can afford to.

There are many ways to damage ears. Be careful of thigh clamping.

I'm told damaged things in the ears don't get better. I've done so much damage to my hearing in my life by not wearing protection in many years around guns , aircraft , race cars/motorcycles , music , etc and now I hear ringing , buzzing , chirping , crackling , every day. My yearly hearing tests at work are a joke because I hear the above noises louder than the tones.

The irony is, for me, I hear crickets all the time, but cannot hear actual crickets like the ones conversing in a field.
