Re: rifle case trimming
Shit, it just occurred to me that the necks probably won't fit the pilot for the trimmer correctly without being sized.
Ummm oh well. So much for that half baked theory.FUCK BIDEN

Sounds like the brass is from an unknown history and some may have been reloaded multiple times and nearing scrap stage.
Look for a bright ring ahead of the head's rim. Straighten a section of paper clip, and make a 90 degree bend at the straightened end forming a hook roughly an eighth of an inch long. Insert the tool until it touches the web, and drag it up the wall. This checks for a crack or imperfection corresponding to the bright ring on the inside of the shell. There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

yes cases fired but unsized are shorter than the same case after sizing. So resize your cases and then check length. Set your caliper to the max length and lock, then any cases that don't pass through the jaws require trimming. It usually takes a number of iterations of firing and resizing before the cases stretch enough to need trimming. The rule of thumb I learned was to discard cases after they've been trimmed 5 times. But then I don't reload for for sooper-dooper extra magnum thumpers!

Resizing which reduced the diameter will make the length increase slightly. I always trim mine to .005 under nominal.
