Re: Reloading 45 ACP
Something to watch is your choice of the "plug" used in bullet seating. Many are double ended with a "flat end" and a "round end". Obviously one for Round Nose and one for SWC/WC/Truncated cone, or so you'd think. I while a go I had a problem with Berry's Plated 185 gr flat point bullets. For a reason I was unable to detect using the "flat" plug resulted in a bulge near the case mouth that would prevent the cartridge from chambering. That was solved when I switched to the Round plug.

Re: Reloading 45 ACP
OK, the seating phase or overall length of the round. Thanks again Seafuse.
I set up the crimp and then I set up the overall length by using a factory round and coming down on the round nose with the concave end of the die screwing it down till just man met the nose, this gave me a pretty approximate overall length. I then crimped and did a few of my hand loads and I*m right at 1.255 which is where I wanted to be. Now my question is on the crimping.
I crimp sufficiently tight so that I can hold the casein my hand and using only my fingers I force the nose into a piece of wood. If it gets pushed into the case...the crimp is too loose.
And you all?

Pretty much the same technique. I hold the round like a ciggarett with my thumb over the base/primer area. If that makes sense.

Re: Reloading 45 ACP
For crimp, check the OAL after crimp. Just make a dummy round with no powder or primer. Put it in a mag and load and unload it a few times and check for setback. Another thing I do is put them in my bullet puller and give it a decent smash. If the OAL doesn't change it's good.

Goal for me tomorrow is 100 rounds, we'll see how that goes. All I need to do is put them together.

Hey old engineer did they call the engine sailors snipes in those days? Old Navy buddy was on a destroyer "down in" the engine room.
