I had some of those galvanized looking square tins at one time. The tins are long gone but I'm pretty sure I know which ammo in my stash came out of them. I think it's the 1946 Russian factory 188 ammo that I have. Each group of 20 rounds was wrapped in very frail wax paper and tied with some twine. The only other ammo I have is 1980 Bulgarian factory 10 ammo, and I'm pretty sure that came from the green tins.

I think you are correct. I was able to clean more corrosion off of the can to expose more letters. A guy identified it as Russian on one of the Mosin Facebook pages. Do you happen to know the bullet size? How many rounds in the tin?
