Best .45 ACP under $1000

Hey Cole, If you haven't made up your mind or made your purchase, you can have my opinion. I suggest the Springfield Armory G.I. model 1911. SA has a long history in the USA and has great customer service to back you up. Cost will be around $500, half of the budget you mentioned. The G.I. 1911 will be a good shooter and a fine carry weapon, as proven by our military.
Any Colt 1911 would be a fine choice but will cost you more. With the money you save buying the SA 1911, you can begin planning your next purchase, possibly the Glock 21 as mentioned previously.
Tearing down the SA 1911 is a snap, do it once and you will be a pro without any frustration. Good luck with your choice and let us know what your decision will be.

I'm going with an Springer, just trying to decide between the Milspec and the GI. Seems like a good cheap entry point that I can modify as I grow up with it.

Cole, good choice on the 1911. You'll be happy with either. You're in Bucks I see, Ready Aim Fire Indoor Range usually has one for sale, also there is a place in Norristown, Jeffersonville actually, called In Site Firearms. That's a good place to buy. Enjoy and keep us posted...Mike45

I know of several 1911 style guns with over 100,000 rounds on them. I have one with 30,000 rounds and another one with about 17,000. The 1911 can certainly run with a Glock and some people do shoot them better.

Now...that being said, it is relatively easy to drop in a 2.5lb trigger in a 1911, but it can be a real pain to install a nice beavertail grip safety....or have the slide milled for good sights. Get a 1911 with good sights and a beavertail..

If you can spend up to $1000 why limit yourself to the GI or Mil-Spec springers? You could get into a Loaded model for around $800 and have a fantastic first 1911. Just a thought.

Colt or a Springfield Mil-spec will give you a great start for under 1K. Shoot it just the way it comes before you start to trick it out. Springfields customer service is second to none also.
