I'll throw out an out-of-the-box answer: keep an eye on the AR15.com classifieds as well as post a WTB ad here. You may get lucky with a high-dollar item that's lightly used for cheap.

CDNN Sports has a bunch of AR parts. Here's a 12 in Yankee Hill handguard $70

That is a good option . But it doesn't put a spare in my box of parts right now.

What tool do you figure puts that barrel nut on? And oh my! Did you see the weight on it? Still a good option. Still waiting on a package from cdnn from over a month ago. Not their fault. Post office.

i think i put the 12 inch on my cheap rifle build, the handgaurd has the anti rotarion tabs on them. no need to time the nut. used a cresent wrench to tighten down. been on 2 years, 1000 or so rounds, no issues.

On my main rifle and my wifes rifle I removed the rails and went back to Magpul Thin series hand guards. I like the way they feel, I dont like fore grips, I can still put a light and front sling mount on the mlok. Ive had my DMR rifle free floated, then free floated with a Casv-m and now back to standard magpul thin hand guards again....it still shoots 3/8" groups at 100. None of these changes made any difference. I dont shread my hand I think its lighter, i never weighed it. But thats my 2 cents. My pistol lcame with a rail system and ill leave that on there, but covering them with rail covers.
