Default May be moving to Allegheny. Any special concerns?

It looks like my house search has lead me to Findlay township in Allegheny (pending acceptance by seller). I am coming from out of state. Is there anything I should be aware of with long guns, shotguns, and pistols? I’ve been reading Washington and Beaver county forums, but am curious about LTCF in Allegheny. How much delay are folks experiencing in getting their concealed carry licenses? Also, what clubs or ranges are available for trap, skeet, and Bullseye shooting? I’m a life member of the NRA and GOA, and have shot with my local club.

    Thanks.

Can't speak for during Rona, but under normal circumstances the issuing of an LTCF is fantastic in Allegheny compared to other places I've lived. I think you print a bunch of forms then just take them in person, they take a picture of you and print the card right there.

There is no firearm registration (contrary to what some LEOs think), nor FOID requirements, nor an assault weapon ban in PA. So just bring your weapons in!

I currently have a nonresident LTCF, but was wondering how bad the wait is in Allegheny for the issuance of an ID there.

Sales tax is 7% in Allegheny county. Most surrounding counties are 6%. Might not seem like a big deal unless you are making a major purchase like a new car. No matter where you buy a car in PA, you pay the tax percentage of your county of residence.
Can't recall if a house is subject to sales tax?
And friends and relatives of mine who live there claim that the properties assessment methods there is shady. They immediately assess your property at a higher rate to collect higher taxes.
Which will also affect your homeowners insurance rates too. Just recently I heard of someone who bought a small older house there for $43,000. Within two or three years the tax assessment was nearly $100,000.
I think there is another tax too that other counties don't have.
I've always preferred Westmoreland county, east of Allegheny county, for many reasons, including the ease of the LTCF process.
But if you have to factor in maybe commuting to work in Pittsburgh, distance might be an issue there.
Please don't think I'm trying to discourage you from moving there. Just putting out some info so you can research and make your decision.

But on the plus side there seems to be lots of good places to shoot and some fine gun clubs too.
Allegheny county does not permit any hunting with rifles, shotgun only.

If I were to hunt outside of Allegheny, then I’d be able to use a rifle?

I haven't hunted in decades, but "yes" is what I'm thinking the answer is.
If not, someone will quickly correct me.

The LTCF process WAS backed up 6+ months at least. You had to make an appointment.
I don't know if it's still backed up. I think the office is open again... gonna go look...

    EDIT:
Yes, they are back to accepting walk ins to apply.
Typically takes less time than it does to find a parking spot.
