I resized 109 .44 mag cases but since I found RL23 powder, I shifted back to .300 winmags.
I had 10 Hammer Hunter 160 gr bullets left ( 100 on order) so loaded a ladder using Nosler brass, Hammer bullets and RL23 powder.

I read 3 manuals ( nosler, Sierra, berger) to get a starting point for these 160s.
While only Sierra had RL23, the others had RL22 info.

I digested all that and loaded a 10 shot ladder starting at 74.0 gr and up to 79.0 gr.

As I get to 79,I'll keep an eye on the chrony, check bolt stiffness and visually inspect each case.

I'll start off running some leftover 166 Hammers just to see if I'm on paper at 200.

Quarterborecrazy turned me onto these Hammers.
The doe I shot with the 166s last season had just a huge exit wound.

Since my hip and spine xrays came back lookin good, ill figure a try for elk. Maybe won't happen this season but if not, maybe something else like rabbit.

27hand, I*ve got the 7mm 131 hammer hunters running at 3250 fps out of my 7mm mag. I still have a little more juice to go powder wise. I*m gonna try and see how they group and I just may use them on my elk hunt this year.

What powder are you running in the 7mm?

    I just ordered some 160gr .308s.

I'll be shooting a couple ladders with the 7mm this week.
Those 140 Noslers ( thanks again) and some 131 Hammers.

I'll also be shooting both .300 winmags. I still have 180 and 165 accubonds for tge Savage.

I.just finished up 22 rounds of.300 win mag.
These are for my Savage 111.

I had 22 FC cases, prepped them along with some Sig cases yesterday.

I put 69.8 gr of Imr 4350 under Nosler 180 gr Accubonds.

So, ready for a magnum.range day.

The 7mm has 2 ladder loads. 140 Nosler ballistic tips and 131 Hammer Hunters.
The Tikka has a ladder of 160 gr Hammer Hunters over RL23 and the Savave 111 has 2 loads. The original 180 accubond with 70.0 gr and today's loading.

I'll probably take my National Ordnance 1903A3 as well.

Edit to add. Since I'm taking the 1903A3, I loaded 14 rounds using some LC57 match cases,50.0 gr H100V powder and 180 gr Hdy SSTs.

Accurate Magpro, using Nosler reload data for a guide. I*m at 73.5 grains and it*s running real good. I*ve used Magpro in my 6.5 PRC with Berger 140 grain elite Hunter bullets with very good results out to 1k out of a RPR.

Say in touch and I just may take the ride with ya in 2023.

The 166 gr Hammer Hunters are a bit heavy for the Tikkas 1/11 twist. Steve at Hammer suggested a 160 for that twist.

Since I already had 10 rounds left loaded with 166s, I took them and my Tikka for doe season last year.

The exit wound with these lighter faster bullets was just something to see.

At 100, the doe was hit and went down immediately. I'm a fan but have quite a few accubonds, Barnes, bergers, hornadys, sierras and Speers to run.

Just got back from Corolla, Outer Banks and getting geared up for a round of .44 mags.
    9 hour drive. Still tired.

I bought some .430 Hornady 240 XTPs and 225 FTXs.

I have in stock .429 240 gr IMI soft point, .429 Speer JSP and JHP. Some .4295 Sierra 180 JHC and some lead .430 SWCs.
    Cases are prepped.

If I can dlelay some home impropvement work, I'll get on these and load maybe 5 each with W296 and H110.

I apologize for using this thread too much.

I'll switch to what did you shoot today a few days from now.

There's no tomato pie available in the Outer Banks down to Hatteras but they have crab cakes out the ass. .i was happy with those,. Barbecue, some salmon and a good burger.

Results of these loads to follow unless I shoot the .300 and 7mm ladders first

W296 and H110 are the exact same powder. They are just marketed with a different label and there are reports that they can even have the same lot number. If there is a difference in the book loads it is just do the the particular lot of powder they were testing. I would mix both together and work up one load. In this case you are not mixing different powders (which is dangerous). You are just blending different lots of the same powder together which is what powder companies do before they put it in the can.

There is not much working up you can do with these powders since they need to get to a certain pressure to burn safely. They are meant to be loaded at max and the older reloading manuals cautioned about loading them lower than 3% of max. Curiously most of the new reloading manuals got lawyered up and their max load is under the previous minimum safe load. If you actually chrony these loads I am sure you will see you are way under in velocity with a large velocity spread. Famous lasts words but you can't fit enough W296 / H110 in a .44 mag case to be dangerous. If the charge fits in the case and it is not outrageously compressed that is the load you want and this is usually the load specified in the older manuals. Sometimes you can't even fit as much powder as the older manual shows. Do not attempt to load anything but max with W296 and H110. If you want reduced loads get another powder.

But of course research this yourself for a reality check.

Recently got some fresh 45-60 cases that a vendor trimmed from *-* (Starline) 45-70 cases to load for my 28" Cimarron/Uberti 1876 Centennial Winchester clone. I have used my 7/8" Lee 45-70 die set in the past to reload 45-60, except for crimping because the 45-60 case is ~ 0.20-some inch shorter and the 45-60 case is too short for the Lees seat/crimp die.

Previously I used home-built case cannelure tool similar to the C-H bullet cannelure tool and would seat the bullet to the cannelure ring. While it stopped the bullets from seating deeper in the case when loaded in the 1876's magazine during firing, the pull on the bullets was variable without a crimp.

Enter the set of Lyman 310 dies in 45-70 that I've had since the late 70s. The 310 bullet seating and crimp die could be adjusted sufficiently deep to crimp a 45-60 case where I wanted in a bullet and how deeply. Now I don't have to use the cannelure tool, and I can stop searching for expensive 45-60 dies.

The load is 12 gr of Unique under a 300 gr cast bullet, itself over a dental wax wad cut by the case mouth by manually starting the bullet on a wax sheet placed over the powder-charged case mouth. The wax wads have worked well for me to reduce or eliminate leading.
