Old Rifles
My wife and I unfortunately inherited some of her grandfather’s collection. I’m not very familiar at all with the older firearms so I’m trying to find a website (or any resources) that I could obtain some information on each rifle. These are very old rifles (trap doors, old single shots, WW1 bolts, etc). I have found a very small amount of info on the trap door but I would really appreciate any help on finding a place to learn about these rifles. Thanks in advance!

Re: Old Rifles
Take some pictures and post them. You'd be surprised at the wealth of knowledge here when we're not preoccupied with BS.
Trust me, we'd rather talk about guns when possible.

Re: Old Rifles
Depending on condition, you could have a bunch of $500 to $1000 rifles!
I think bolt action rifles are cool and they were "all the high tech rage" in the late 19th century.

Re: Old Rifles
I would bring what you have to a knowledgeable firearms appraiser, this might cost a couple $$ but you will at least know what you have and what if anything the items are worth.
You can then use this information when you plan on selling.. if you plan on selling.
Do not bring them into a shop and expect a fair valuation if they know you are selling.

Re: Old Rifles
Look for any markings, engravings, stamps on the rifles. Finding one of the right kind may up the value considerably.

Not sure why this is unfortunate, but the next couple of posts after your original are good... You may have a treasure trove, or a junk pile, but you will need to do bit of footwork. The picture idea is a good one, as we have a variety of knowledgeable folks on the forum who can steer you into getting the most for your buck, since it seems you are not particularly interested in keeping these. Could be a bit of family history in there...

Re: Old Rifles
See the first post. Take detailed pictures of each one and post them (one rifle at a time) in the rifle section of the forum. Make especially sure you take pictures of any markings on the rifles. There are people around here that will be able to tell you about the rifle and what a fair price would be.
Why "unfortunately"? Most of us on the forum would probably be ecstatic.

Re: Old Rifles
The "unfortunate" part is likely that they were inherited ... meaning someone passed in order for them to get.

Re: Old Rifles
I suggest you ask on this site
https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php
It is more gun oriented and the knowledge base there far exceeds what you will find here. No offense to this site. Just a fact.
