Yes, this is standard procedure and nothing new and should not be surprising. They literally introduce this bill/and or similar ones and others like it at the start of every session just as democrats try to introduce loads of anti gun legislation at the start of every session. Tons of bill are introduced every session that go nowhere.

They did take the offense on the hearing bill when they had the house, senate and presidency. They had some possible bipartisan support and it had a chance of passing and were actively working on it. Then Nevada happened and any pro gun considerations/bill got swept aside.

And the benefit of having a Republican house, Senate, Presidency after Nevada was that anti gun legislation went nowhere despite the press, hollywood and antigun lawmakers calling for changes. Prices for firearms and ammo basically stayed the same and the price of guns continued decreasing. If Nevada had happened in 2021 that would have been the event that would have started the anti gun onslaught.

I expect antis to present anti gun legislation but not push for it right away. They will start out with immigration and green laws. Gun laws are on their radar though. They do want to impose more asinine laws. But if they do it right now it will be debated and I honestly think that the Senate has enough pro 2nd votes to stave off the attack with the filibuster. (assuming dems don't invoke the nuclear option which I do think they will hold off for awhile until they can cry obstruction and present to America that they have the right to do so)

I think they will introduce bills now so that they are out there. If/when a Nevada/Orlando/Parkland situation happens, they will use the media, hollywood to stir up people emotion and push the bills...... at that point the pro gun votes will find it harder to commit and they may not have the filibuster proof majority. How bad the event is and how much public sentiment they can sway will determine whether they go for background checks or a weapons/magazine ban.
