Scope leveliing kits...which one to buy and do you use one?
I will admit that I have usually eyeballed scope reticles to get the cross hairs level. For that matter I have done the same with the rifle using a bipod or putting it on my cleaning cradle. The most accurate rifle I have ever owned, a Model 70 in Swede, was done this way.
I now have scopes on 3 rifles. Two of them have yet to be sighted in. I was thinking of buying a scope level to make sure they are properly mounted.
What brand/style would you recommend?
Wondering how many of you do or do not use these things?
I guess they are important, right??? Obviously I had prior success without but maybe I got lucky.....

The guy who mounted mine for me had a lined card that mounted with a rubber band and aligned the hatchmarks. I didn't study it so I can't tell you more than that. During the process I got to thinking...am I going to hold that rifle perfectly upright when I'm out there shooting?

I use a plumb bob, put the rifle in a rest with the plumbbob across the room first I eyeball the stock screws to the plumb line then look through the scope make the crosshair plumb with the side of the string.

I use the Wheeler Engineerring Reticle Leveling System and it hasn't failed me yet. I use this on every scope I mount before boresighting it. I also get the customer involved first by loosely mounting the scope, then have them shoulder the rifle and move the scope to get the proper eye relief. While they are holding the rifle and get the correct eye relief I then put a small grease pencil mark on the scope so that whe I go to level it I know where to place the scope back on the rings.

Yep. Eyeball it.
Unless you first clamp down the gun and make sure it is level, then add a level to the scope.
And not all reticles or scope caps are level with each other.
Manufacturing has improved over the years dont get me wrong but I wouldn't worry about buying a level.
If possible your better laying a straight edge across your Pic rail / scope base if possible and judging your crosshairs from there.www.Steelvalleycasting.com is your new home for coated bullets and custom ammo.
