I don't specifically hate them, I just hate them when they are added to a gun that never had them to begin with. Like the Marlin and Winchester lever guns.

There are some guns that they were designed with which work out just fine.

    They're fine on 870's and 10/22's.

But they're super lame when on Marlins and Winchesters.

I like them on leverguns because you can put the CB safety on "safe" and cycle the lever totally safely to empty the magazine without worry that your finger or anything else may trip the trigger.

I hate the big round divot on the side of Winchesters. The safety on the Marlin isn't as ugly.

I don*t hate them. Maybe I should. I have two Marlin 1894*s in .44 magnum, one made in 2002 and one in 2006. One with a scope. I was hunting deer in the mountains of Carbon County a few years ago and it was doe season. She came running straight for me and stopped about 20 yards and looked directly at me. I took aim, pulled the hammer back, pulled the trigger and heard the dreaded *click.* I forgot something. And off she ran. Since then sometimes I have sat on stand with the cross bolt in the off position and just the hammer in the half cock position.

Just a matter of being aware which gun you are carrying and the peculiarities of the safety.

Some people carry the Marlin 1894 with the safe on and the hammer back. The click of the safety being pushed is apparently less noticeable than the noise made by pulling the hammer fully back.

    They're kinda ugly.
I have two Marlin 336 lever action rifles, both 30-30 caliber. One has the crossbolt safety.
Awhile ago I researched the years of manufacturing.
My rifle with the crossbolt safety was manufactured in 1983, that was the first year for the crossbolt. The other was made in 1967.
The 1983 I bought years ago from a firearms dealer (now passed away) who got it from an estate sale. It has a nice Bushnell scope with see thru mounts, probably worth more than the approximately $200 I paid for it.
I've never been very good at sighting in scopes.
The first time I took the 1983 to the range, I was getting one inch groups or better at 100 yards, I was happy with that, never adjusted the scope.
If the need ever arised for me to need a sniper rifle, for varmints of course, thats my baby there. 😁

Mine is from '85. I put a Japanese Tasco on it when new, and it's stupid accurate. I'm never adjusting it or taking it off!

The one nice thing about them is being able to unload rounds safely.

I don't have any problem with them, but maybe that's because I grew up with them.
