Re: Better weapons
The most likely scenario is that we will have stun guns that work, like phasers set to "stun". That won't adequately replace firearms. Real guns not only incapacitate the perp, they kill them about 10% of the time.
If stores set policies where any shoplifter they catch just has to give back what he was stealing, and is never prosecuted, what would happen to shoplifting? It would explode. Because thieves only face 2 possible outcomes, they either get stuff, or they don't. There's no "loss" option, they either win or they tie. No "years in prison" option in that scenario. Soros-backed prosecutors are creating this outcome NOW in larger cities, by refusing to prosecute thieves, and they don't even get arrested now.
So a rapist breaking into your sister's house either rapes her, or gets stunned and released. There's no "shot in the face and groin and bleed out screaming" possibility once all the women have nothing worse than non-fatal stun guns.

Re: Better weapons
The Second Amendment talks about "ARMS". That's a very general term that's constantly evolving. As technology progresses, so will the public's appetite to possess that more effective technology. It's been happening for centuries, and no reason why it would stop now. The only thing that would stop it is government interference.
The basic concept of laughing a metal projectile hasn't changed, technology has just made it more powerful, accurate and faster. So even if that core concept changes, the public will still want the most effective anti-personnel weaponry.

Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

I am only limited by my imagination, and then my budget.
In America arms are free merchandise such that anyone who has the capital may make their houses into armories and their gardens into parks of artillery. - Ira Allen, 1796
