That 7.1 load is for CPRN, not JHP. Again, different bullets can sometimes require different powder charges.

Also, Alliant's load data is not a starting load. Reduce by 10% to get a starting load...

I'm without wifi and working with my cell so I can't diagnose the discrepancy.

Until you have some experience under your belt and a chronograph your at the mercy of book data. It's ok to be confused or concerned.

I use Berry's plates bullets and start with the lowest fmj data in my book and go from there. Ymmv

I'm attaching a photo from my Hornady manual for 115gn 9mm for you to glance over as another data point. I would even feel comfortable telling you to start a little lower than what Lyman has listed. Plated bullets aren't designed to go as fast as fmjs (as I understand it)

I misread. That*s why I will check multiple sources before loading a round. Thanks and my apologies.

I pulled my copy of Sierra Ed 5. For a 115grJHP or FMJ and Power Pistol, it starting load is 5.1 grs., Maximum is 6.0 grs. Pretty sure I'd discount the Alliant data.
Generally I've found the bullet manufacturers data to be the most reliable with the powder manufacturers a close second.

And Lyman has a start of 5.9 and max of 6.5. That is scary thus my concern.

I am using plated 115gn RN btw so trying to discern data for that.

I agree with Duke! Using Jacketed data (even though some manufacturers say it is OK) can get quickly get you into +P range pretty quickly.

I get you, thanks! So moral of the story, start low by using cast for plated.

So, my plated are xtreme and they say:

Our Copper Plated Bullets can be run at mid-range jacketed velocities or higher end lead velocities. We recommend keeping velocities to less than 1500 FPS (Feet Per Second) and using only a light taper crimp

    Soooooooo? :-)
