Default 10mm 1911's and Reliable Magazines??

    Hello All,

Just acquired a 10mm 1911 with a long slide (6"). Gun runs great and accurate and with over 200 rounds all fed and ejected fine...however I am getting about 90% failure for the slide to lock back/open after the last round has been fired from the magazines. Looks like both 10mm mags that come with the gun have weak springs and the follower is not pushing up hard enough to adequately engage the slide lock. The springs are working to feed the chamber but not to lock the slide open.

Just curious if other owners of 10mm long slide 1911s have had this type of issue? If so what did you do??

I have already ordered a Wilson Combat mag and hope this fixes the problem. I have also ordered new Wolf Mag springs and will see if replacing the spring in the mags fixes the problem.

From when I looked into it with my 10mm 1911 mec-gar mags are iffy, metalform seems to be the way to go. If you keep an eye on Ebay you can get a pretty decent deal on them.

I don't have a long slide but factory Kimber and Metalform mags have run flawless for me in IDPA competition.

Verify that you're not resting one of your digits on the slide release.

I have a Kimber TLE 10mm. Ruger magazines are great, have a solid follower, cheaper than Kimber mags.

I use Tripp Research Cobra mags 9rd. Didnt help my hold open problem though. Sent my gun back for another issue and they just screwed the mag release in a little more and it holds open now.
