Default Billet upper in a wheeler clamshell vise block?

I was looking at a billet upper but only have a wheeler clamshell vise block.

Will it fit? I am going to guess probably not. I had a spikes tactical 9mm upper and had a buy a second wheeler vise block and modify it heavily with a dremel.

I'm not crazy about those vise blocks that use the pin holes in the receiver to hold it in place. I feel like that is just asking to break the aluminum at that point.

Ask Empty. I think he just parks one of his truck tires on in in his gravel driveway to hold it in place.

Have you tried a Magpul BEV block? Fantastic for barrel nuts. The top fits the chamber notches (lock tabs), and if you flip it over it fits the magazine opening on lowers.

My FM billet upper would not. Ending buying a reaction rod.

Huh. How about that. I've seen it before but falsely believe it was for lowers only.

Thanks! I thought that might be the case.

I have the BEV block and have used it countless times to change barrels and build upper so I'd recommend it. The reaction rod works in basically the same way but doesn't require you to disassemble your BCG to use the carrier with it. The BEV block does double as a magazine block for working on the lower though. I'd lend you mine if you were local.

I was going to do the same - offer to send it out, but then I realized it was already loaned out, and I need to get it back! I'm sure there's got to be a member in Bucks county that's got one....

Thanks guys. I passed on the billet upper. I ordered (backordered) an aero precision m4e1 instead.

The reaction rod I have replaced the BCG. Just pull out the BCG and insert the RR. I did not have to disassemble my BCG.
