People used to pay with Walking Liberty's at the gas station I managed, but this was when they were about that price.

First time I got one, took it to a coin store to verify, and I kept it, and every coin after that.

Pre panic pricing was $17-$19/box fmj, $23-$25 for hydra shock. Not a huge mark up, it’s what the market dictates. That being said, it’s rare to see him have any ammo in stock.
Assuming that's not a typo, your LGS was already at panic pricing.

I dunno, that might be in line with single box at a LGS, that's not a 1000 rd case or bulk pack.

I don't think I ever saw a single box of generic 9mm go for that much at a LGS unless there was something influencing the price, ie panic, etc.

He’s been that price since 2012/Obama part 2 panic. As were most places I’ve been around here. That’s per box price. I’m sure if I bought 1k rounds it would be a different story. And he doesn’t carry generic crap. Usually only federal/AE or S&B. Maybe the occasional magtech or CCI Blazer brass (on the low end) but always brass case.

Back when he sold reloads, it was another story. $9-$12 for a box of 50 fmj/jhp respectively...I miss those days. When 2012 panic hit, that went to $14-$17 a box and he stopped reloading because he got so busy he couldn’t keep up. Farmed it out to Keystone and bulk packs were $25-$35

    Possibly true.

At any rate, I put mine at $0.75/round, high enough to make flipping less attractive, low enough that folks with an AR but less than 100 rounds of ammo (some folks this year bought their first gun and have zero rounds for it) will be able to buy a reasonable amount.

BTW, "hoarded ammo" still counts as being in civilian hands, where it could sit until needed.

I have given some ammo away to those who just bought their first gun...whether it be a 9mm or an AR. I gave enough to make the gun they bought worth it, rather than using it as a club. I also post info on ammo availability with certain manufacturers, even though its priced high, for those who are new to gun ownership. A little bit of information and spreading good karma, to those who are not in the know, is how I decided to help out. I don't want anything for it, other than those who have benefited from my help...to help those who will benefit from theirs. Pay it forward...simple but effective.

The little ammo I gave away was not worth the money I would have received in return...at least it isn't to me.
