Anyone recall what 220 round spam cans of surplus corrosive 7.62x54R were selling for prior to 2020 madness? All the ones I see now are selling for 50 cpr ($220 a can) or more. Debating on if I want to pick up a couple.

On the low end $150. on the higher end $190.00 per 440 rounds surplus spam cans. Don’t know about 220 round cans since the only ones I know of were the 180 something grain heavier “sniper” grade ammo which were always more per round.

Ya I'm talking just the lighter ball machine gun ammo. Last price I recall buying them at is around $89 a can, but that was some years ago!

Yeah they were $89 back before Sandy hook. Surplus dried up for a good while then it came back out priced around $130.00 a tin. I sold large amount in January of 2019 for $140 a tin to a member here who either had or had access to a FA PKM so he wanted a lot.

I've decided to shoot more sporting clays rather than the rare and $$$ 9mm. So.....yesterday I received an email from "Cheaper Than Dirt" (an obvious oxymoron) "alerting" me to an availability of Federal 12ga. target rounds (12ga, #7.5, 1,1/8 oz.) 25 rounds/box at $49.89 !!! My initial reaction was "what are they smoking?"
My wife and I made a very-rare trip to Walmart in the afternoon (for some household supplies) and I found six (6) 100 round boxes of Federal Target Loads (two #7.5 and four #8) priced at $22.47 per box of 100 rounds!!! I purchased two boxes and my wife got two (Wallyworld only "permits" the purchase of two boxes per customer). I felt like I hit the lottery.

I see steel case for the bargain price of merely .60/round...

I see smaller manufacturers coming in to supply the needs of all these new gun owners. I see the price of ammo dropping back down...but not for at least a year or possibly longer. There are many looking to manufacture ammo...As I am one of many who have started the process of buying equipment and components. American ingenuity and solution driven responses will bring ammo back into stock.

I am not a gambling man, but would bet on seeing ammo manufacturing increase to levels never seen before...as more Americans exercise their right to buy a gun.

Yesterday while I was at the Allentown show, I was seeing soft point ammo for 308/7.62 going for an average of $60+ per box...that’s just obscene. $3/round plus? No way...

There was one seller that had a box of reloaded LC with soft point and asking price was $50/20rd *sold as components only*

simply put, if you don't want to pay the price, don't buy it. Walmart used to keep everyone in check, not the case anymore. put away what you think you need as a stash, then get the excess and use it for the range. if you find some at a half decent price, buy iy and put it aside for range use. hunting ammo, don't even buy it now. if you have 1 box at home, that box will last a couple of years to hunt. when the prices come down, buy some hunting ammo. I myself will not pay the prices of ammo now, I don't need it. when it comes back dow, go buy what you need.
