I posted a few pics of one I did, check out gun pictures. Mine has excessive headspace, but it still does look nice.

Well those are dirty guns, drenched in cosmo, so obviously you did a great job bringing it back. I'm thinking of buying another one, but because it took me about 3 months to do I don't really want to.

Willtallica, I saw your post yours came out very nice bummer about the head space. I shot mine today for the first time and it's shooting about a foot to the right so I have some adjusting to do but I like the feel of the rifle and the action. Plus I have tons of surplus .308 ammo.

I know what you mean by "drenched in cosmo" My entire rifle was black. I soaked mine in Castrol super clean for a few hours to get her oil free. It took me about 3 1/2 weeks to finish this one. It was definitely my biggest challenge yet.

Willtallica, did you fire any rounds thru your gun?

Nope, and I think I have about 500 SF. I'm afraid to even test fire it, but herd that the NATO field spacing is like a thousandth of an inch longer than a winchester's. It's possible that it still can be safe to fire. I'd like to come up with a contraption to safely fire it.

Will: have you explored replacing the bolt head yet?

    Thats what I was thinking.

I have found at least 3 different bolt head lengths, and I think I have all three of them in the shop.

As I recall, he *may* need a No.4 head, not a No.1. The extractor spring broke in my old 2A, and discovered it was different from a No.1 MkIII.

I resorted to ordering all the small parts from a No4 rifle...spring, extractor, shaft screw, etc. No one in the US had it, ordered from a Canadian firm.

At the time I had both a No1 Mk III and a No.4, I was surprised to discover the 2A bolt head followed the No.4 dimensions.

The bolt heads we have were ordered for a fake No5 "Jungle Carbine" in .308.

My father did the work for the customer, and I never touched the rifle. I was thinking those fake cut down no5's were no4 rifles...am I correct?

Any way, we have a few bolt heads in the shop that might help him out.

I suspect you are correct, but I'm no expert with British service rifles. Thanks for helping him out.
