Don't care about shooting skip or anything else, just wanna listen into the truckers nearby when I'm driving. I'll carry it with my evil Baofeng.
I'm thinking of getting one myself. What made you go with that model?

Size. I wanted something small to carry in my bag and I can then stick in a cup holder nearby. All I really care about is listening to the trucks right around me. I doubt they wanna hear from the Amish Express.

Na but I get the urge to say something to some of them. One time I saw one with yuuuuuuuggggggeeeee industrial rock truck tires on it, they must have been 10' in diameter and I felt the urge to talk to him about them. And another guy had his load tarped up really well, no flapping of it whatsoever and I felt like complimenting him on it. Otherwise, you could get valuable traffic updates. I've been to southern TN several times lately and 81 has been having its share of traffic snarls. For the most part, they have been on the other side of the highway but not all of them. I'm talking about backups that were several miles long.

I love monitoring CB when on the interstates, as you said, lots of good information to gather from chatter, I was able to get off the highway before getting stuck in a major accident back log by doing this. I do like that small size, more covert than turning my truck into a mobile antenna farm.

What the hell kind of HAM guy are you if your vehicle isn't already a mobile antenna farm?

I just got it a little bit ago. I think it's nice. Seems to be well built, came with both an AC and DC charger. It's a little heavier than the Baofengs. I'd say it can't really be used while it's charging as the charger introduces a high level of noise in the radio. So much so it cannot be squelched out. Has weather radio built in. It has all the features of a modern day CB radio, but it fits in your pocket.

I'll report more when I get back from Indiana.

Try putting a ferrite bead on the charger wire.

That;s the question I was bout to ask, and if he needs one, I've a few extra laying around. (Radio Shack going out of business was very good to me for components).
