Re: Old Rifles Not Fired in 20 Years
They are fine. Firearms don*t become dangerous being locked in a dry safe for 20years. You could have pulled em out, loaded up & immediately fired with no problems.

Check the "Use By" date.
I will shoot things way past the date and I never get sick.
My wife would throw it out. She won't risk it.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Should be fine. I always shoot an unknown (questionable) from the hip with headed turned away. And then only one round in a mag/clip feed.
I payed $50 for a Arisaka Type 99 that then sat in my closet for 30 years. I finally took it out and cleaned it up last year. I was a little leery shooting it, but I feed 5 from the hip before I shouldering it.

Re: Old Rifles Not Fired in 20 Years
Looks perfectly normal to me especially if those were before pics. I would call that patina, not rust or pitting and it is perfectly normal for carbon steel. Give the spring a closer look and if you find large areas that are corroded to the point of missing metal then replace it. If all you find is a few pits the size of sand don't worry about it. I have some Mausers with 80-120 year old springs and they shoot just fine.
