I went to S&W’s web site with a 380 EZ manufactured in April of this year and when I entered the serial number on their web site for this, it came back as a model not impacted by the recall.

What happens to a gun that is back ordered with a recall?

Good question. My order date was mid August so it falls within manufacturing time. Although, I'm thinking it hasn't been built yet. That could be due to a problem with parts from suppliers. I would hope any new gun leaving the factory doesn't fall under recall..
