Re: Mature Female carry weapon
My 48 yr old wife has the .38 lcr. She has no issues with her hands, but I'll tell you, I think that gun is for someone more experienced. It's snappy. I don't have a recommendation, but she likes it, and understands it, but not the best at shooting it. Kinda light. I think a heavier gun is easier for new shooters.

Re: Mature Female carry weapon
Appreciate all the input, thank you! And I hear my own words on racking and the fit!
I’ve advised that for years.

Another vote on the 380 EZ. I liked it so much after we got one for my wife we got a second. I stocked up on 380 just because I liked it so much after not liking a single 380 pistol I*ve ever tried. I even find it accurate and comfortable to operate single handed. It*s honestly a great pistol and is very friendly to anyone I*ve taken with to the range from experienced shooter to first timer.

I think you go to the gun safe, grab some semi autos and some wheel guns and let the wife shot em....Let her pick what is comfortable for her.
Myself and the ball chain go to the firing range at least once a month and she fires different types of firearms. At 75 plus she still picks the 45 ACP over everything else and that is what she carries. She has shot 5.7X28, 32 H&R magnum,. 38 special, .38 Super, .357 mag, and 44 special. She is in .45 acp camp says if the recoil ever gets to much for her the second choice is .32 H&R magThe oracle is in. Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!!

Re: Mature Female carry weapon
Don't forget about the EZ in 9mm but the Walther CCP is both easier to rack and has less recoil. I have shot the CCP and it does what it says. It just didn't fit my hands.
None of the advice means a thing if she doesn't like the feel of the grip and has trouble racking and hitting anything with it. As was stated above, she needs to shoot different pistols to get an idea of what she likes.Engineers make things idiot proof! Evolution makes better idiots!

Re: Mature Female carry weapon
The recent import surplus Itallian police trade in Beretta 81's and 84's are great for people with smaller and weaker hands. Easy to rack and low recoil.
They're also good for people with normal sized strong hands.
.32 and .380 aren't exactly one shot man droppers but 13-15 rounds of either, will make most bad guys reconsider their current course of action.
As was said, never buy a gun for a woman without letting her try it out first for herself. If she's not comfortable with it, she ain't gonna carry it.
