NYT Article on suicide prevention for gun owners
A surprisingly fair piece with only few statements to bristle at on a worthwhile topic:

Re: NYT Article on suicide prevention for gun owners
Didn't realize suicide was the majority of gun related deaths.

Re: NYT Article on suicide prevention for gun owners
I've never heard of anyone buying a gun to commit suicide. I knew three guys who committed suicide. Two who used guns had several pistols and rifles. Both were suffering from severe medical problems and depression. One of them was my brother-in-law. We were close for many years. Lot of fishing and hunting trips. The third, never found out why he cashed in. Put a rope in the attic, attached it, and stepped into the opening. His 16 year old son found him. He didn't own a gun, and didn't buy one.

Re: NYT Article on suicide prevention for gun owners
One-vehicle fatals are sometimes suicides. Passing laws with focus on preventing people from commiting suicide is the epitome of ignorance and arrogance.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Now let me get this straight. A baby will fight all it can to survive but it's OK to abort them. An adult decides they're unhappy living and we need to prevent them from ending it?

Re: NYT Article on suicide prevention for gun owners
Roughly 35,000 people die in auto accidents each year.
According to Biden's web page "Plan to End Our Gun Violence Epidemic" "Almost 40,000 people die as a result of firearm injuries every year in the United States..."
Towards the end of that page, way down near the bottom, "Biden believes any plan to address the gun violence epidemic must address suicides by firearms, which account for 6 in 10 gun-related deaths...." equals 60% of 40,000 which equals 24,000.
Suddenly NYT is parroting Biden's Socialist gun control agenda??? Nah-h-h, it's just a coincidence.Marty near God's Country. Making good people defenseless doesn’t make bad people harmless.

Re: NYT Article on suicide prevention for gun owners
I was talking to a liberal friend the other day and pointed out the sad statistic that most gun deaths in the US are indeed suicides, not homicides. She was shocked. We both could agree more needs to be done to combat mental health issues. Never even gave her the chance to bring up more restrictions because I pointed out that litterally millions of guns are out there and grandpa's old shotgun in the closet is always going to be around no matter how much people want to restrict purchases. Got her to reluctantly agree on that point as well. I don't think the NYT is parroting anybody here though. I think Biden is an idiot, but the Pro 2A crowd HAS been bringing up this point for some time and now finally the progressive Dims are actually recognizing it really it for what it is. The real question is are they going to treat it as a medical/mental health issue or just use it as a stepping stone to propose things like even more red flag laws without recourse to due process?
So the libs finally are seeing they've been barking up the wrong tree for decades. So now what?
