We had this discussion years ago. If I can recall, you can carry anything legal, that otherwise you wouldn't be allowed
to hunt with, as long as you aren't using it for hunting.

If you have your LTCF, you can carry any "firearm" whether it is legal for hunting or not. You can only use whatever handgun for hunting if it is legal for that species, season, or region - otherwise, you are only carrying it for protection. (not sure what restrictions there are for Berks Co)

I know the squirrel and rabbit seasons that I used to hunt up here allowed for .22cal or smaller rimfire handgun and rifle, and shotgun.

In Monroe Co. You need a SPORTSMANS PERMIT If your carrying while hunting,If not hunting you need to find out if the LTCF will suffice although I have heard to the contrary .

Wouldn't that violate PA's preemption laws? an LTCF should be all thats necessary to carry a sidearm other than what you're hunting with, which the latter would be covered by your hunting license.

Monroe County can't make their own laws for handgun carrying.

If a hunter is open carrying a "firearm", he/she doesn't need any license/permit (unless Dictator Wolf's State of Emergency declarations are interpreted to the contrary).

A LTCF will always suffice in place of a Sportsman's Permit.

Not only can you carry a single action 22, you can hunt with it too, or keep it with you for dispatch purposes.

Or better yet, leave the long gun at home and hunt squirrels with it. I use a Ruger Single Six all the time. Much more challenging.
