Looking for advice on a reasonable spotting scope.
I’m shooting out to about 700 yards, my scope is excellent, but I would like a spotting scope for a friend to use to help spotting for me. I would like to stay under $500. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Looking for advice on a reasonable spotting scope.
Ive had a couple lower priced spotting scopes and found that bullet holes at 300 yards are difficult to see unless the target is white.
200 yards isnt too bad.
I'll get the name brands and magnifications later and edit the post to reflect the info.Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

Re: Looking for advice on a reasonable spotting scope.
Oh boy. The comment above about holes at 300 yards is so true. I did a long-range shooting course two years ago and the lower end scopes just don't cut it out past 500 yards.
One of the other students had a Nikon, though, and I got a chance to look through it. Not sure if it was this one, but the price is about right, at right at $600. Not quite where you want it, I know, but you're going to be mighty pissed if you get a sub-$300 scope and are not happy with it at 700 yards. Closer in from 500, maybe, but I'd be awfully worried about buyers remorse if you really bottom-feed here. And prices go up from this one, Vortex has a couple at $700 and $800, and it just keeps going, as I'm sure you know.
Good luck! Here's the one I was suggesting you look at

Re: Looking for advice on a reasonable spotting scope.
Konus always seems to get good reviews for a decent priced spotter
I would recommend giving Camera Land NY a call and ask to talk to Doug. He will hook you up

Is there any reason not to just buy a telescope? Seems you could get a really decent one for a fraction of the cost. The image may be upside down I would guess. I've been throwing around the idea of getting a spotting scope too, just thinking outside of the box a bit.
