I do too. Been doing it for a long time. I'm still not sure what the law says about where it has to be located and how. I have the unloaded rifles in the back seat and all ammo in the locked bed/cap. Handguns too. And I make a point to NOT stop and clench real tight until I'm through.

Re: Assault wpn through MD, FOPA?
Are we 100% certain that FOPA covers when state of origin and state of destination are the same ?
FOPA states: "to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearms"
Hence the "any other place" implies that the origin and destination can not be the same state.
I seem to recall that's what has been stated in other threads in this forum and at law seminars.
And this also falls into same category as magazines; which is "unknown" because FOPA wording is not clear.Last edited by ett; November 15th, 2020 at 10:13 PM. Reason: typo

Re: Assault wpn through MD, FOPA?
Yes -a trip between two points in PA with a reasonable route through MD can invoke FOPA while in MD- it being an intervening state of the interstate transport. It does not apply while in the origin or destination state, ie PA.
18 U.S. Code § 921 - Definition
(a)(2)
The term *interstate or foreign commerce* includes commerce between any place in a State and any place outside of that State, or within any possession of the United States (not including the Canal Zone) or the District of Columbia, but such term does not include commerce between places within the same State but through any place outside of that State. The term *State* includes the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the possessions of the United States (not including the Canal Zone).Last edited by tl_3237; November 15th, 2020 at 11:55 PM.
