Default Do you carry hex wrenches as much as a screw driver?

Dunno when Ruger changed from slotted screws to allen head, but my recently purchased 10/22 has them. And what is really annoying to me is the two screws involved....barrel band and take-down (ordinary, not Takedown model)...are two different sizes. 1/8" and 9/64ths".

Fixed that with a cut-off wheel in a Dremel and some oxpro-blue touch-up. Assembled, the slots are hardly noticeable and now the Leatherman that is always on me is all that's needed if occasion arises.

I can't do an engine swap with the stuff in my range bag but I do carry a bunch of tools.

Allen heads and torx are far superior to flat head and phillips

And yes, I have a bit set with driver with me at the range.

I keep the big Brownell's master set in my range box. Hollow ground screwdrivers , Hex/Allen bits , Torx , Phillips , even Posi-drive and square bits , which I have never needed.

I have a small set equipped with both in my range bag.
Sticks and stones will break my bones but hollow points expand on impact.

This stays in my bag. I also throw the Allen keys and what not I get with scopes in a pocket. I’ve got full sets at home so no need to add the one offs.

Agreed that torx and allen are superior drivers. But, in this case....the 10/22 Ruger standard "carbine" rifle....they can be overkill.

The plastic barrel band is tightened to a very gentle snugness. Any tighter will just warp the plastic band. The take-down screw just needs a snug tightening that can be accomplished with a straight blade. As time goes by, I may find that there is a sweet spot and the FAT wrench w/allen driver will be employed at home. This is not a benchrest competition rifle.

I just want the option to be able to use a plain screwdriver in a pinch, which may never present, but it's there.
