questions about going to a gun range

I have a friend that has misdemeanor charges that prevent him from owning guns, His wife still does own guns. Is he allowed to go into a gun range
to assist his wife? The wife doesn't have that much experience, and wants to take a new female gun owner to practice.

Someone else more knowledgeable can comment on the type of charges and how that factors in, but if he is truly prohibited, then he can have NO access to guns OR ammunition - together or separately - both are off limits.
If the wife owns guns, he can not have a way to access to them.

I don't know the legality of going to the range to teach. Is "not touching" the guns/ammo while there "enough" to stay within the law?
Seems to me that if a gun were lying on the bench while not being used, then it would, in fact be "accessible" to him, and a big, fat, violation of the law.

I'm sure this has been discussed in the past. Can't recall the answers.

Probably not, but he*s still committing a crime if he touches the gun. Freedom is too easily lost and not regained easily!

I'm not a lawyer, but I think the short answer is no.
If he's prohibited then he can't legally handle a gun.
His wife is also obligated to lock them up and prevent his access.

I assume that if the gun's owner were keeping (holstered) it on his/her person, then it would be in their control, and not an issue, but that's just a guess based on common sense, and the law doesn't always mesh with common sense.

I'm thinking his wife should find another instructor. Besides legality, husband/wife combos usually don't do exceptionally well with firearms instruction.

All gun laws are infringements. If I were him then I'd do whatever I wanted unless he consented to being ruled but his rights still exist.
