Default no guns for old ladies

Purchase Denied: Too Old and Wrong Gender

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You think you've seen everything and then they surprise you. An 81-year old lady in an allegedly somewhat pro-gun state (Delaware) goes to buy a .22 pistol. Clean background, not even so much as a ticket. Delaware State Police approval clerk on the phone notes her age and gender and stops the sale.

Now right about this point is where I (and probably you too) start to think "Oh, I smell BS, there's more to this." Nope. DSP admit that's why they stopped her. She is too old AND a woman. No apologies, they are just acting "responsibly." 10 days later after interviewing the lady they finally let her buy the gun.

Story deepens. While some pro-gun people are complaining, a DSP officer tells them "well she was 81 and had never bought a gun before." Oops. "And how do you know that, trooper?" You see, the DSP are supposed to destroy their records of gun purchases after 60 days under state law. They were disregarding their own state law.

And of course, little will be done about it. DSP promised the NRA they would be good (really this time) and stop flagrantly ignoring their own state laws, and the NRA gave them a big hug and said they wouldn't sue.

Can you imagine the outcry if this poor woman had been denied any other right or permit or license, and the excuse had been "her age and sex." The outrage would have been all over the news and the government of Delaware would be tripping over themselves to apologize and fix things. Not with gun rights though.

This is why you can never trust any gun control measures.

Default Re: no guns for old ladies

The only thing I can think of is this
-- 81 years old + wants to buy a gun = suicide risk

DON'T WORRY, THE STATE WILL SAVE YOU!!!!!!

I agree, it's a shitty reason to deny someone their rights, but think of this scenario::

Imagine that this woman did commit suicide. Her family would find some ass hat lawyer and sue the state for allowing her to purchase the gun.

We have paralyzed ourselves through litigation. Damned if you do, damned if you don't - and as usual, the possibility of a lawsuit trumps individual rights and freedoms.
