Default Preparing for AR pistols to become SBRs overnight...

The ATF seems to be bent on turning every AR pistol into an unregistered SBR or AOW overnight. This MAY end if Trump wins, but will certainly continue if he does not. I like to be prepared.

    1. Is a 5.5" flash hider designed to bring a 10.5" barrel to 16" measured length?

    2. What exactly is ATF's current definition of pin and weld? ie, where does the pin need to go?

    3. Does weld and weld not count?

    4. I am officially asking for a friend that you don't know. I own no firearms...

    Thanks and good luck!

Well hell, my crystal ball broke, and I'm no lawyer, but IMHO anything welded/permanently affixed to make the barrel 16" will make it a rifle.

Don't hold me to this but I think there were once imports that did exactly that, I want to say it was HK94s with faux suppressors welded on or something of that nature

It must be "permanently attached" either through pin and weld, high temp solder (brasing), or full perimeter weld. Typically a hole is drilled through the bottom of the muzzle device extending into the barrel a small amount pin inserted and welded over. I'd be looking for a 6" to go on a 10.5" to give you the safety margin.

Do you think the ATF would accept a 7 inch length of 3/4 PVC epoxied onto the flash hider?

Should be good to go - so long as you don't shoulder it.

Or aim it - or whatever hoop they choose to make you jump through at any given moment.

Lining up the rifling might be tricky...
