Reloading?
I was just wondering looking at our present conditions of political and shortages and high prices if you were going to reload .223 & 9mm just a SHTF situation other than the difference in primer size when it comes too powder would it require different types or is their one all purpose go to 🤔

Re: Reloading?
It would require different powder. Pistol powder burns faster than rifle powder. However, powder is relatively cheap and a pound of pistol powder goes a long way.

Re: Reloading?
Powder is getting more "available " than it was mid summer . I would be buying now if If needed any . As Jkl56 said there is a difference in the two.

Re: Reloading?
Truely SHTF there are subsonic 223 loads (probably won't cycle ARs) using Clays and Titegroup powder, which also work in 9mm.
Primers are both the same size, but would require a bit of testing in specific firearms to know if a common (SPP,MSPP,SRP,MSRP)
would work in both rounds and it specific firearms.
Best not to get in that SHTF situation and stay prepared during the good times, for the bad times.

Re: Reloading?
In any shtf situation where I could not get more powder, I'm 100% sure I'd rather have a loaded rifle in my hands then a pistol. I'd get more rifle powder if for some very strange reason I could only have 'one' powder.
Luckily powder is affordable enough I can stock a variety.
Don't use pistol primers in rifle rounds.

Re: Reloading?
If you stock up on titegroup, and CFE 223 there isn't too much you can't load. It's a good place to begin hoarding.
10 months ago would have been a better time, but you probably still can't lose by current prices. Good luck finding primers though.

Re: Reloading?
If you are truly worried about SHTF do NOT stint on training with bow and arrow and crossbow.

Re: Reloading?
I use UNIQUE to load rifle, pistol, and shotgun reloads. But not 223. Well, not jacketed 223. Cast 223, yep.
Few people do this, so, as advised already, multiple powders are required. Go shopping with a list of powders for your 223. Even before scares and panics came along, it was not uncommon to have your favorite store fresh out of just the one powder you needed.
