Sad story, reminds of of the young man who shot his dad by tripping about 2 years ago.

I dont doubt that almost all these Accidental/Negligent discharges begin with having their finger on the trigger then tripping or falling !

It's a sympathetic reflex. When people trip or fall, what do they do with their hands?

They grab and tighten their grip on whatever they are holding.

Keeping our finger off the trigger while the rest of our hand is grabbing or gripping is not a natural thing.

Finger on trigger and reflex grasp would have no affect if the safety, which belongs ON, is on. (Safety includes external hammer riding its safety notch).

No doubt. I'm sure everyone remembers from hunter safety that your weapon should be unloaded while traversing a stream or climbing a fence etc... Granted I don't unload, but safety is on or hammer is half cock when on the move. Would have saved his friends life most likely

2021 Harvest numbers at 2507 according to today*s PAGC website. That*s a lot lower than last few years and first time under 3,000 since 2007.

This is consistent with our anecdotal observations of a lot less bears around this summer and early fall. Wonder if the last few years of big harvests plus a tough winter took its toll.

I think the lack of snow makes a big difference in the rifle season...

I'd say bear activity at my place was not as consistent as previous years and after Sept they pretty much vanished as far as I could tell. They kept pooping on my road in late summer which was annoying.

Snow definitely helps. But like Wanneroo, we saw a lot less bears this summer in central Clinton county. That is shared with others we talk to. It was really an off year for the bruins.
