I agree with Noah Zark. A lot of collecting is just horseshit. The rules are set by nit picking fuss puppets that just happen to own the "Correct" gun. I worked in gun repair in the military. Hundreds of thousands of parts are replaced on weapons annually. Some obsolete parts are only replaced as the gun comes in for some other work or inspection. I remember having crates of M16A-1 parts to be replaced in this way.

Same is true with collectors of anything. What's worth more , a mint condition , all-original , matching numbers '61-'72 muscle car , or some cobbled together jalopy?

The prices you see for Carbines and Garands are for mixmasters so don't worry about having and shooting one. There are very few "correct" rifles out there and when they do come up they go for big bucks that will have some non collectors shaking their heads. With the mixmasters some rifles might be nicer than the other or have an original cartouched stock the will bump up the price a few hundred but its your decision if that is worth it to you.

Aftermarket non USGI is another story........

abner13--You are confusing unissued(Mint) condition with correct condition. I used to collect Arisakas and had late war guns that were "Cobbled" together by the Japanese. Some did not even have serial numbers on them. The trouble with collectors is they tend to bend history in favor of what they have. I wonder what a Carbine bring back would be worth that was "Bubba'd by Victor Charlie and had papers?

This is straight up, I tried with M1 Garands, It is bullshit, I built the nicest shooting Garand with a pile of parts. If you thing firearms collectors are crazy, try it with WWII German uniforms, folks(collectors) have a hard time realizing there was a world war going on at the time, that the Germans where loosing, troops put together whatever they supply chain could come up with, dress uniforms included

Again, thanks for all the responses.

I purchased an Inland M1 carbine from Classic Firearms, I think it was one of the recent import batch from Royal Tiger Imports that supposedly came from Ethiopia. It was fully refinished by James River arms. Barrel is dated 1943, all late features. The stock looks brand new, in retrospect a few dents and dings would have been good. I also spent more than I wanted, but prices on these have been climbing. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.

Anyone know anything about the warrenty offered by Classic Firearms? Would it be worth it on a rifle like this?
