IMO, it has nothing to do with whether it's a "good deal" or not. It's just one more example of a Sheriff that has decided to substitute their own judgement for the law, which they have sworn to uphold.

Yes, it's a "choice", but the alternative is waiting for an appointment, and any wait for an appointment is not even being considered part of the 45-day limit on issuance.

A little infringement here, another there.....just small enough to discourage people from actually bringing the matter before a court to force them to actually do what the law requires them to do.

Convenience fee 🤦*♂️ Anytime I see that, what I really see is “we’re going to charge you for doing our job properly because well, fuck you.” And I walk away.

Without the fees, this wouldn’t be a bad option. But as Walleye said, it’s really no big deal to go to the airport and do it in person. So much easier than court street and when I’m due again in 5 years I’ll be going back to RDG substation

Yeah but to my knowledge, Berks isn't doing that appointment or other delay garbage on us. At this point I don't see an issue with offering an alternative for the fee, as long as I'm not forced to go that route. I do agree that $5 is too much but like I said, Berks is easy to work with.

That whole part after yes it*s a choice doesn*t apply here in berks. It*s walk in, turn in form and payment, get license. Even worked that way this year for me even though they tried their COVID bull shit. I posted my experience as it happened.

OK, but that's not what their website says:
If you do not want to use the online service, please see application at bottom of page.

Applications will only be accepted via US Mail or through the online process.
Once your permit is approved you will be contacted/prompted to set up an appointment to complete the process.

I agree. IMO, the fee is illegal, even if voluntary, and any wait beyond the statutory 45 days (from application to decision) is not only unacceptable, but also illegal.
