FWIW, a brief update:

After nearly two weeks of open carrying around Western Pennsylvania and the West Virginia panhandle, I have little to report. No negative encounters at all. In fact, as several here have mentioned, most people seem to hardly notice. I've oc'd in several stores (always careful to check for signage, of course) and in public areas throughout my community. Dunkin' Donuts, Mr. Tire, a couple of convenience stores, interaction with store employees who I'm sure took notice of my holstered .357--yet, no undue concern or over-reactions.

Last evening, during my evening walk, the nice cleaning lady I often encounter stopped to chat as usual. She noted my gun and expressed mixed emotions about her son having recently purchased a firearm. I took the opportunity to share with her my own feelings on self-defense, making reference to my own plainly visible revolver. Rather than become distressed, she seemed to be genuinely curious.

I think I may have represented the gun-owning community rather well.

Stay safe, everyone,
