Re: How many full-bore battle rifle rounds in a range session?
I used to shoot the whole day with 8x57, 7.7x58, 6.5x55, 7.62x54 and so on. During the summer (Longer days) I would average about 300 rounds.

Re: How many full-bore battle rifle rounds in a range session?
I'd say most will begin to flinch after 10 rounds of my hand loaded 2000 fps 300gr 45/70 from the Marlin 1895. I had a Savage 110 in 30/06 and had some standard 30/06 DCM rounds that I bought when my Gun club left DCM and I could shoot a lot more of those rounds than the 45/70. I should have kept that gun and the ammo but I wanted a nicer shotgun so I sold it. A friend of mine has a Parker Trojan shotgun and it is the most brutal gun to shoot, even more than my Fox B Model. The shape of the stock and butt plate batters the piss out of you and will leave your whole shoulder area black and blue after attempting to shoot a whole box of #8 Trap loads

Re: How many full-bore battle rifle rounds in a range session?
Let's just say the fun & skills improvement way outpaces any pain that may occur. Money becomes a factor in how many rounds are fired way before bruising unfortunately!
I do prefer a gas operated 12 gauge though for reasons that somewhat include less recoil/should beating.

Re: How many full-bore battle rifle rounds in a range session?
Probably the most "big" rifle I've fired in one session was ~75 in 30-06 and ~50 in 308. No bruise despite being on aspirin/plavix. Have often fired 150 rounds of 12 gauge, no issues.
OTOH, first time I pulled the trigger on 338LM with a 300gr pushed by 90gr of powder I heard a crackling noise that sounded like a bad visit to a chiropractor. No bruise, no pain ON the shoulder, but felt that twist IN my back for a while.
Bought the twice-above-mentioned Past recoil pad, and no issues 30-50 rounds.
I wear it outside my shirt, just when shooting 338LM. Anyone who says "Pussy" can try 3 rounds of 338LM on me. If they don't grimace, they are the better man lol.

Re: How many full-bore battle rifle rounds in a range session?
It depends on the rifle: I can shoot a nice heavy H&K G3 variant all day in .308. Give me an old iron butt plated 1917 or a trapdoor in 45/70 and I'm good for about 30-50 rounds. I've not had the pleasure of trying any of the elephant rounds, but I can tolerate a few hundred rounds through an over under 12 ga. Every once in a while if I don't shoulder a shotgun properly I'll be sore the next day, but I really don't bruise.

Re: How many full-bore battle rifle rounds in a range session?
Off topic a little, the only issue Ive ever had was when I won a 338 win mag at a gun show, called the gunshop and asked them to mount and bore sight a scope for me. Got to the range and wasnt even on paper at 50 yards, shot 24 rounds....after about 12 I couldn't not flinch. Shot one deer with it and traded it in.
