oddball caliber: good idea?

With the ammo shortage I have been thinking about the benefits of having a pistol in an unusual caliber. You can still find .25, .32, 9x18, etc. in gun stores. If you have a pistol in that caliber, you can still shoot and practice without wondering when you will be able to replenish your stores. It doesn't seem like a bad idea. What do you guys think?

I've seen 40 cal in a few places, Sportsman's Warehouse in Washington Pa. had a LOT of 40 last week.. a few boxes of 25acp and that was about it in pistol But prices were higher than what you could find a few months ago

I think buying a gun in an odd caliper to shoot will cost more than the inflated ammo costs,
Question is,
Did you stow away some ammo for a rainy day?
Many believe that this ammo shortage will last for a while and .22 will be the last to come back on the shelves,
We all saw "Cheaper then dirt" selling 50 rounds of Blazer 9mm for $59.99 plus shipping,
Not only were they gouging horribly and while I have never bought from them, I never will,
But also, People were actually paying that price as it appears to be gone,

Sportsman’s warehouse is opening a new store in Chambersburg. Just got the email today. $8.99/box for federal brass 9mm 2 box limit starting Thursday.

As for buying an oddball caliber? Anything is better than nothing. Eventually this shortage will hit that supply also and if you haven’t squirreled away any ammo for your other calibers it may prove to Be effective to buy a new caliber and all the ammo you can find now, while supply is there. The prices I’m seeing aren’t overly inflated vs normal pricing on things like 25/32/9x18...YMMV of course

Been pondering the same thing and came to the conclusion that it's cheaper to stock up again when I can/when prices get back to normal, than it is to buy a new caliber and outfit it correctly. I've got more than enough to last me a while with some moderation, so doesnt make sense for me to go and buy something new, have to buy ammo, and then probably be paying a high price per round when things get back to normal (because it's an oddball). Let's say it takes me $350-400 to get a new gun and a few boxes of ammo, which is easy enough to spend that much (or more) for something middle of the road quality. That's 2 full cases of 9mm at normal prices.

If I didnt have much to start with and needed something? Sure, maybe an oddball caliber makes sense.

Just use 8mm instead of 9mm.
Don't use 10mm though. It won't fit through the hole in that tube thingy.

I got so many calibers it serms to become a burden feeding them.

5.7x28mm is oddball, and I haven't found any at a reasonable price recently.

My tube thingy has trouble fitting in some holes.
