FOPA Coverage of Mags and Ammo
What's the case law like for FOPA covering magazines and ammo during interstate travel?
This of course would only be for the in-between states, not the starting or destination. And I do know it's only a defense, so Officer Sparky in NJ may still jam you up over an 11 round mag.

Re: FOPA Coverage of Mags and Ammo
I'm not aware of any case law but the law itself does not address either magazines or ammo except to say the gun can't be loaded and ammo stored separately.
Seems to me once the magazine and ammo are out of the gun, the two of them are treated as separate things and state statues would determine if you are legal or not.The Hostler

Re: FOPA Coverage of Mags and Ammo
FOPA covers "firearms" and nothing more.
It provides guidelines that must be followed for ammunition in order for the "firearm" protection to apply, but provides no protection for ammunition or other "accessories" that may not be legal in every state.Get your "Guns Save Lives" stickers today! PM for more info.

Re: FOPA Coverage of Mags and Ammo
If you are planning a trip, UPS your Ammo and Mags to your destination. Most hotels will be happy to receive a package for you, especially if it arrives the same day you do. Just don't tell them what it is, or tell them its golf balls.

Re: FOPA Coverage of Mags and Ammo
With the recent reliability of USPS and other carriers, I'd never risk my mags to them anymore.
I just completed a FOPA-compliant trip through one of the worst anti-2A states to a friendly one. No issues.
Just consciously try NOT to be pulled over for speeding on the highway.Galations 6:9...And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Just don't leave your gun and mags lying around your car where they can be seen. I seriously doubt a cop is going to pull you out of the car.

Warning bells for any cop these days. Probable cause to at least ask if you are carrying any firearms. And search if you say no.
I always keep a few mags and speedloaders for guns I normally carry , and a few boxes of ammo , in the console of my truck.I don't speak English , I talk American!
