First time gun-related purchase involving customs
Found new front sight for Mosin online, $9.69 and shipping. Ordered it. Got the usual emailed acknowledgement but with a surprise difference. I should be receiving the sight in late November or early December. Huh? I'll be....it's coming from Russia! LOL !
Well, today the postman (person) letter carrier knocked on the door for a signature and here it is. A small blister envelop, label in Russian, with some English translations under the Russian. Package clearly states front sight. Stamped RECOMMANDE'.
I wonder if I am now in some intelligence file. Or dossier. There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Yep. FBI thinks I am an outlaw biker. Saw the report.
But now, I am screwing around with Russian gun people. That has to be an enhanced category. There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Ebay is a great place for gun stuff out of eastern Europe, I got a tokarev holster and an SVT-40 gas adjustment tool (dug up from a battlefield no less) from the Ukraine. No idea if .gov is tracking me more than they already were though.

See if you can still get a flight to BFE Pakistan or somewhere on the Arabian peninsula. That should give you an indication of how much they watch you!

Re: First time gun-related purchase involving customs
Back around 1976 or so I was investigated by US Customs for flying guns into the Dominican Republic. An asshole in my department phoned in a phony story knowing that I had been there recent to the time. Investigator really thought he had me when he found out I was a private pilot. It all eventually fell apart. I am kidding about being on a list, but I am not discounting it either.

Re: First time gun-related purchase involving customs
I bought a Russian VKBO hat but I got it from a seller in Dortmund, Germany. I try to keep the number of Russians that have my address and PayPal info to a bare minimum.
I have gotten some pretty sweet bayonets for a good deal from Eastern Europe a few years back. Best ones came from Germany though. The Germans are good eBayers, they don't fuck around.
I also got some Spanish Muela knives from a seller in Poland. It takes a while for customs but their prices can't be beat. They come looking like a key of coke in the movies. Wrapped up tight in plastic and duct tape.
