S&W m&p15t gas system length?
I know what the specs say. They claim it is a midlength system.
But i also know what my ruler measures and that makes me think it is a carbine length system.
So the first picture is taken with the 0 at the muzzle end of the gas block. It is roughly 1" long so the 1" mark on the ruler corresponds with the shoulder of the barrel where the gas block sits.
My understanding is the shoulder is where the measurement is taken from to the barrel extension.
The second picture shows just over 8" to the upper receiver. But, remember that the shoulder is at the 1" mark. So the length from the shoulder to the extension is just over 7" making it carbine length, correct?
Or am i measuring at the wrong places?

I can't even find where it says anything about the type of gas system.

Looking at the photos on the website, it looks mid length - looks too far forward to be carbine length where that gas block is.
I can't tell from your pics. Too close.

That is the m&p15t that replaced the one i have. Mine is the one with the quad rail. Not the mlok rail.

Re: S&W m&p15t gas system length?
Also, I'm not seeing it mention the gas system anymore which leads me to believe that it is whatever they had on hand. It used to specify midlength if i am remembering correctly.
Going back to the original point, it is indeed a carbine length as per my measure, correct?

Re: S&W m&p15t gas system length?
I just measured three guns. (from the front edge of the upper to the rear edge of the gas block)
Midlength with low profile gas block under handguard - 9"
Carbine with A2 front sight - 7"
Carbine with low profile gas block under handguard - 7"
