Perhaps ammo should be a free entitlement for certain income levels?

I have a number of vintage military 9mm pistols , but it is one of my least consumed cartridges. I still have 1 or 2 cases from when ya could get a 1000rd/case of 124gr S&B or Fiocchi for $99 shipped to my door.
I shoot about 1000 rounds every month in competition and an equal amount in practice - I guess I picked the wrong time to get back into the sport! I have enough to last a while, but at the rate I shoot I don't have ROOM to stockpile years and years of ammo and I have a very big house lol.

Most gun owners own a bunch of firearms, so to stay "you cannot afford to shoot," is a silly comment to me. Why have thousands of dollars invested in firearms, if you don't have mags/ammo? This doesn't make sense to me, so when people complain about ammo/firearms availability, I laugh. If you didn't stock up when ammo/firearms were available, it's your fault.

We all have had at least 7 years since Sandy Hook to stock up.

I have been training with my daughter every week, to get her up to par. I don't see the point of having an ammo fort if you don't train. I don't care how much training you've had in the past, if you are not shooting regularly, you are going to out of practice. You can have all the ammo for your kids and grandkids, but you still need to practice. If your ammo supply is that low, you can always train with airsoft or BB guns. Shooting is very important to keep your skills up and be proficient.

People don't "stock up" on ammo for the same reason they don't stock up on other items that are typically available 100% of the time.
How often do have you been glad you stocked up on years worth of food? Same thing.

Ground beef doesn't fo up to $30 a pound when the demand outpaces the supply.

Some people may not have the space to store tens of thousands of rounds of ammo.

No matter what you stock up on; food, fuel, ammo, clothing, medication, seeds, etc ...; there will ALWAYS something else you either should have stocked up or other people say you should have stocked up.

It sure got insanely high during covid for a few weeks.

The point is, it's a rare occurrence - not really worth worrying about - until it happens.
