Default Who can actually afford to shoot right now?

The cost of ammo is ridiculous. I'm not out, but i certainly don't have enough that i could go and burn through it and be able to replace it. 600$ cases of 9mm are unsustainable as a recreational shooter.

I know, gun control isn't about controlling the guns. It's about controlling the ammo. I get that there are A LOT of new shooters. But i seriously doubt they are buying up cases at a time.

I'm also not criticizing anybody who is 40 cases deep of 9mm. I don't have those kind of resources. But if i did, i would be there too.

It looks like I'm going to be shooting a lot of 22. Maybe some conversion kits are in my future. Any suggestions?

We're going to be telling the next generation of shooters, "back in my day, you could get a thousand rounds of 22 for under 40$ at Walmart".

What i wouldn't do for a time machine and those 10$ boxes of federal ammo at Walmart.

My carbine pictured has a dedicated 22LR upper/barrel, but since this topic came up, I looked to see how stock was at various vendors who sell the CMMG conversion kit.
Lots are out of stock - almost all of them actually.
These have typically gone for $150-$170 on sale.

I found one in stock for a pretty good price - especially considering $5 flat rate shipping.

For those like myself who already own the mags, you CAN get JUST the conversion "BCG", but they aren't as common.

I hear you. Fortunately, i stocked up on 22 steadily for years. Every time I'd hit Wally world, I'd get a brick or 2. Or get one of those Remington bucket of bullets. Or get a case of 22. I'm not saying I'll never run out, but as long as i don't do mag dumps, i should be good for a while.

If you have a deep enough stash you can shoot steadily and then hope to resupply once things even out...

I'm also the type of shooter that 50-100 rounds a week is enough to keep skills sharp. You can readjust your training to be more efficient.
