Re: Who can actually afford to shoot right now?
I checked my reloading inventory yesterday. I am down to 11k spp
6k srp and 5k lrp, a couple hundred lbs of powder, about 2k 9mm fmj, 2500 308 fmj and anout 1k of 556 fmj.
Probably about 3 or 4k loaded.
I also have about 1200 lbs of lead.
I have very little factory ammo and gave up my last hundred rounds of factory 308 to a friend that was in need.
Primers are difficult to find right now. Powder is still available.
We usually bring a couple full ammo cans to the range and shoot it like its free.
Lately we have been just taking some ammo boxes to cut down on how much we shoot.
We have also just been loading 5 rounds at a time in the mags.
That slows things down a bit.
The shortage has definately caused us to reduce how much we shoot.
I figure I have about a years worth of ammo on hand and I hope things open up by then.

Re: Who can actually afford to shoot right now?
Yup 308 which I only stock a few hundred rounds of and no hunting stuff is nuts and hard to find. Because I started collecting SKS and AK’s before anything else I have always had a crap ton of x39 annoying so I bought the Ruger Ranch which will easily serve all my hunting needs in PA except for squirrels.
The other option was to sell x39 which is still somewhat affordable in order to buy more highly over inflated calibers so buying the rifle was a no brainer.

Re: Who can actually afford to shoot right now?
Is 308/7.62 NATO also getting hard to find?
I don't have the money to buy any ammo, so I'm not really paying attention.
I know that 9mm and 5.56 are through the roof just from seeing everyone talk, and then looking to confirm, but I was surprised to see someone post that 22LR is up in price too now.
Several weeks back, I pondered trying to locate SOME 5.56 and 9mm, but then I did a count and found ammo I forgot I had.
It's not a lot, but it will have to do until things start to level off.
22LR is the only thing I really "stocked up" on after the 2012 panic. It's much easier (cheaper) to stock up on 22 than it is 9mm and others, so I have a ton of 22LR.

If you want to talk pretentious snobs, then we should be talking about 1911 owners.

Re: Who can actually afford to shoot right now?
People who were smart enough to buy ammo and componants cheap and stack it deep , back when it was cheap.
And shooters who don't need to 'dump' a dozen full 30rd mags as fast as they can pull the trigger every time out.I don't speak English , I talk American!
