I shoot my .300 10.5" barrel suppressed with super sonic without hearing protection and I am not uncomfortable.

Admittedly I don't have the best of hearing as is

This wouldn't be a test to see if if full powered loads are louder than subsonic (it will be), it is just a test to see if the sound level is dangerous. But be conservative since the sound will be louder in an enclosed area.

If you reload you can also experiment with faster burning powders to reduce the muzzle flash and noise. Maybe an intermediate load between subsonic and full power will work best. I would be interested in knowing the results.
I'm def going to do some experimenting ,thank you for the recommendations.

I shoot 6.5 Grendel all the time with super and suppressed. Buddy of mines 308 is way quite with supers and suppressed. No ear pro and very comfortable.

Dont get hung up on only subs.

I read these threads to try to understand the mind of people who have suppressor boners.

Now that I've learned that using subsonic ammo - needed to actually make it "quiet" (not silent) - reduces the effectiveness to that of a handgun, I REALLY have no interest in suppressors.

Good posts though thus far. I learned something new.

Suppressors are great to make muzzle blast of "normal" ammo shooting without ear protection safe. It's nice to be on the range bench without the guy next to you just destroying your ears while shooting.

Shooting subs for the more quiet experiance in a rifle isn't for everyone but is also nice. But not a requirement by far.

I looked into 300BLK but stayed with 5.56x45 - for 1 factor only - price. both are good rounds but at the time the 300 was 3-4 times as expensive and I don't reload (I also don't own a suppressor). Now, everything is expensive -if you can get it.

One area where I think 5.56 would have a definite advantage is if you ever had to scavenge ammo for some reason. .300 is going to be a lot harder to find.

    300 Blackout sounds WAY cooler.

    5.56 needs a marketing name - like 556 NiteSlayer

Yeah... that's badass. Especially with "night" spelled all rebellious and shit. So cool.
