Yeah, it sounds impressive and of course we are allured by anything with *.50* in front of it. However, it simply doesn*t have the velocity necessary to drive these monstrous .500* pills. It*s basically a flying Tuna can, LOL! The Beowulf is a continuation of the .499 LWR...which actually could match the 450 BM. It just wasn*t reliable. Was found the case was simply too long in the .500* diameter. And was shortened for the Beowulf giving more seeing reliability.

Sticking with the AR15, the 450 BM has the best ballistics of the big bores. It*s the flattest shooting(by FAR!), and retains the most energy at extended ranges. Besides these characteristics, it has the best SD and thus, penetration of the 3 big bores.(450 Bushmaster, 458 Socom & 50 Beowulf)

But I get it....Beowulf has the *coolness* factor and to most, that takes precedent over performing.

I've owned all 3 at various points. I like the 450 the best for distance. But had no issue pummeling man sils at 200 yards with iron sights on the Beo.

Buy the 450 if you dont reload. If you reload then get one of each.

I was obsessed with this for awhile because I wanted a thumper. I ended up saying screw it and bought a 50bmg instead. The raptor is a great cartridge though

Well DUH! LIK! Yeah, 50BMG is the way to go! Forget these *Mini* big bores! 50BMG upper.

OR.... for those with exhaustive bank accounts, go for a an Anzio with 20mm Vulcan! Makes a 50BMG look puny!!

If I wanted a big bore, I'd go 458 SOCOM. Lots of bullet choices and Tony Rumore is the man.
