Re: Compact and subcompact 9mm hammer fired pistols
I'm not going to crap on 380. But i am going to say I've never shot one that was as reliable as a 9mm, had the capacity of a 9mm, and under normal circumstances, cost less to shoot than a 9mm.
1911s are great guns. Currently without one again. But i never liked the cocked and locked setup with the grip safety. Plus the weight. And yes, i know some models have firing pin safeties, but not all. I won't carry anything without a firing pin safety.
These are my personal beliefs. I know plenty of guys who are happy with 7 or 8 +1 and cocked and locked. Plenty of guys like the mouse guns in 380.

I don't know if these were mentioned because I wasn't about to read through 6 pages of posts but there is the HK p2000, p2000sk and p30sk (smallest of the three mentioned).

Re: Compact and subcompact 9mm hammer fired pistols
I'm still going to suggest the Springfield 911, in .380 or 9mm, both come with pocket holsters, at least the 380 I looked at did, thumb safety, loaded chamber indicator that you can feel and or see. My hands are pretty big, I'm 6ft4 and the grip was comfortable. The .380 and pocket holster fit my Lee Jeans front pants pocket comfortably standing up or sitting down. If I had not bought my springfield XDs .45 the day before I would have bought the 911 but there were none in stock while I was looking.
