Going to a new area I had cleared some shooting lanes from a decent tree with a trail about 20 yards off.

These 2 are still just hanging around at night. Surprised they are together.

Looks like it'll be a bit warm for the next week or so.
Good luck. We've been lucky with the weather so far. It hasn't been too warm, especially in the evenings.

    I've never gotten into muzzle.

Today was the last day of our 3 day "Old Man's and young kids rifle doe season".
Rain last night. Woke up at 5, saw rain and crawled back into bed.
At 8, it seemed to be letting up so drove the half hour to Avella and got into the woods.
I only went in a little less than 1/2 mile to a new spot. The last 2 days, I only kicked up 2 doe as I was leaving at noon due to high temps.
Today, I posted about 9AM and at 10, a single small doe came out of the thick shit I decided to sit next to.
I thought about passing because this one was small but hadn't seen anything else so decided to take it.

She saw me before I saw her and was bobbing her head while I was slowly bringing the rifle up to scope her.

I used the old National Ordnance parts gun and it did its job at about 40 to 50 yards.

She ran about 25 yards and dropped. Cool beans, chops, and Jerky chunks on the way.

I seen a huge buck maybe 150 class 8pt run across the road in front of me yesterday on my way to a doctor appointment. I scouted the area later and found some big rubs and a couple scrapes. I sat in there last night and got busted at dark lowering my pack from the tree. I was off by about 100 yrds or I would have got to see them in the light. I'm going to try again Friday morning and move closer to the bedding area. Hopefully I didn't ruin it.

    Man.
Good luck. I've noticed my mostly nocturnal bucks come around every other day. Small but legal 8 point a couple days ago.

No big racked bucks that either myself or my friend down the street has seen.

Tonight was a good night to be in a tree.
    My latest freezer candidate.

This guy has been nocturnal since he was in velvet.

He surprised me by coming in from behind me and walking quickly.
I pulled up the crossbow and only had a second to find a spot high on his back as he was quartering away and pressed the trigger hoping to get both lungs.
The bolt passed through and came out in front of his opposite shoulder. Gotta go find that tomorrow.

The Spitfire 100 3 blade did its job superbly.

He only ran about 35 or 40 yards and went down. Cool beans on a short drag. His last couple breaths made him slide another 40 yards down hill to a creek.

Drag up was too much. I called a buddy who showed up. We dragged him about 60 yards downstream, crossed a creek and into the back of his pickup.

Now, instead of hunting on the Sat after Thanksgiving, I\'ll be making jerky.
