    Exclamation GOP senator stops bill to make Juneteenth a federal holiday

    Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) claimed the new holiday would come at the expense of the American taxpayer, suggesting federal employee's lose a day of paid leave.

    I'm a federal employee and I agree with him completely. Between Memorial Day and July 4, that would make three federal holidays in one month and that would be silly.

    I see no good reason NOT to make it a holiday and observe it more widely. Just not a "day off" holiday. Or, if you want to give it a National holiay status, make its observation on a Saturdy or Sunday when there will be fewer federal employees working. Other holidays are observed on days other than their actual date. This would actually allow for maximum attendance at parades, festivities, observances.

    They could offer to swap juneteenth for mlk day, that's a straight up fair swap.
